Meet Amie

Hello there! I’m Amie Finkbiner, a limited licensed counselor practicing Schema Therapy in Michigan. I help people by working through trauma and adverse life experiences in order to develop new skills to engage with the world more effectively. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University.

Origin Story

I’m what my cousin likes to call “a feeler.” I cry when Shadow comes limping over the hill at the end of Homeward Bound. Taylor Swift albums wreck me. My heart bursts at the seams when I get to hang out with my family and friends. But there was a time in my life when I was mostly cut off from my emotions. I’d encountered some adverse life experiences and the only way I knew how to get through it was to avoid my feelings. I thought, “If I feel all this negative stuff, it’s going to break me.” Little did I know at the time, but when you cut yourself off from the stuff that hurts, you also cut yourself off from the stuff that heals. No wonder I was unhappy!

Wake up!

Reconnecting with my emotions was the first step in figuring all that out, but my journey towards mental health and wellness didn’t stop there. You see, those adverse life experiences changed how I saw myself and the world around me. Setting my intentions to understand that change was what led me to develop a renewed sense of compassion for others, become a professional counselor, and ultimately to practice schema therapy.

I take great pride in helping my clients achieve their mental health and wellness goals. I don’t expect that any of our journeys will look the same, but I know the value of having a companion alongside wherever the road may lead.
